Larry Schwarm: Kansas Farmers

“Contour plowing is a soil-conservation practice that was developed in the 1930s to combat erosion. By tilling across the slope of the terrain rather than plowing in straight lines parallel to a field’s boundaries regardless of slope, less soil and water are lost to runoff” (pg. 86). Tap and swipe the image above to see an aerial photograph of this field after harvest, and an elevation shaded relief map. Tap the web icon to see a video about drone technology and farming.
