In addition to his work as a photographer, Tom Kiefer was a custodian at a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) center in Why, Arizona, from 2003–2014. He has saved and photographed items that CBP agents confiscated from individuals crossing the border. Gloves like these, which might be used for warmth, protection, or manual labor, are considered non-essential personal property and are taken from individuals during processing.
