Exhibition Label: "A Kansas Arts Sampler," Oct-2004, Kate Meyer Margaret Whittemore is most known for her depictions of Kansas landmarks that include barns, trees, and windmills. In 1825 at Council Oak representatives of the Osage tribe signed a treaty with the government enabling new settlers to pass freely through the Santa Fe Trail. Today, only a stump remains of this historic tree.
