Art and Activism: 50 Years of Africana Studies at KU
At a Black Student Union rally on the steps of Strong Hall, protesters held signs in remembrance of Dowdell and called for the Lawrence Police officer who shot him to be charged with his death. AAAS students and faculty remain committed to this history of anti-racist activism and social justice through organizing and participation, community-engaged scholarship, public lectures on Islamophobia, film screenings on the Arab Spring revolutions, symposia on Race and Sports in Society, seminars on racial disparities in health care provision and #EndSARS, and courses on Black political thought, theater, music, and the Black Lives Matter movement, to name but a few.
