Bold Women
Through the vibrant lens of Indigenous Futurism, Cara Romero links the three Native women portrayed to the ancient “three sisters” of corn, squash, and beans, a deeply sustainable companion planting method. Digitally projecting patterns specific to each woman’s tribe onto their skin, Romero says that “3 Sisters imagines a future where Native women hold a sacred role in the healing and balance of our earth. The wires are ‘plugged in’ to their hearts, minds, and life-giving energies—the things our futures depend upon for survival.”
