This print illustrates a procession passing throught Shinagawa, with servants carrying banners and accoutrements of a regional lord. A small hut, intended to provide respite to travellers going through this important port town, is depicted on the right. A customer at rest on a bench watches the procession as his own palanquin sits nearby, empty. The smaller format of this print adds to its intimate, somewhat desolate mood.
