Archive Label 2003:
When cotton thread and cotton fabric became widely available around 1800, quilt makers in the United States began to craft heavily quilted white-work bedspreads such as this one. Despite its yellowing and rust stains, this whole cloth quilt is an outstanding example of intricate stuffed quilting. This quilt was published in Carrie Hall and Rose Good Kretsinger’s text The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt and praised there for its technique.
