Archive Label 2003: This pattern is a variant of the Tree of Life motif, which was popular with American colonial quilters in the 17th century. In Hall’s interpretation, “the branches hang very low and the flowers are within easy reach,” as Hall herself noted. The design is also known as Christmas Tree, Temperance Tree, and Tree of Paradise.
