Label 2009: Cristofano Allori’s Madonna and Saints is a marvelous example of the Florentine Baroque style and one of the few paintings by Allori found outside of Italy. The spontaneous execution, painterly brushwork, and unusual color scheme combine to create an evocative mood. Also, several of the figures turn toward the viewer, as if to engage us in the sacred conversation taking place within the canvas, thus heightening the dramatic quality of the Madonna and Saints.
