Exhibition Label: "John Steuart Curry: Agrarian Allegories," Aug-2006, Kate Meyer This watercolor predates the same subject done in oil by five years (now at the Art Institute of Chicago). Both versions translate the unfolding drama between hogs and snake in a gripping and even primal fashion. The action unfolds at a closer distance to the viewer in the oil version, but is otherwise very consistent with this sketch.
