This exhibition consists of various works on paper by contemporary Native American artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith. Smith’s work addresses the history and myths and of her ancestors in the context of current issues and problems facing Native Americans. The result is a cross-cultural exchange between the values of the artist’s inherited past and those of 21st century America. Her works are held in many private and public collections. A video about the artist, produced by the Native American Public Broadcasting Consortium, and narrated by N. Scott Momaday will accompany the exhibition. Jaune Quick-to-See Smith will lecture about her work at the Spencer Museum auditorium, June 15 at 7 p.m. Joni Murphy, the curatorial intern in the prints and drawing department, will give a gallery talk on June 28 at 7 p.m.
