Will Bradley is very likely the best-known American practitioner of the Art Nouveau style applied to poster design. Bradley looked to a number of sources for inspiration and one of the most significant was Aubrey Beardsley’s photoengraving of Salomé. It had been reproduced widely and was an exemplar of the French Art Nouveau style with its clean, sinuous lines and stylized organic forms. Bradley in turn produced poster designs that synthesized an array of influences such as Art Nouveau, Japanese prints, Indian craftwork, and medieval ornament.
