This photo screen print illustrates a concept that Eldred developed in the 1960s called “imaginary graphics.” This idea can also be seen in four photo-collages with cut-outs from 1968 shown nearby. The artist combined images of fabricated sculpture on a huge scale with landscape scenes or cityscapes, as seen here. Eldred had studied science and architecture at the University of Michigan; both of these disciplines proved influential in his sculptural work, which accentuates the interplay of natural light with industrial materials used in heavy construction.
