Exhibition Label: "The Family in Photography," Dec-1997, Stefanie Vigil The playful nature of this studio portrait is dramatically different from the stiff portraits of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. As the structure of society changed and the family no longer needed to concentrate its efforts on work, it was united more often for play.
