Archive Label 1999:
This dynamic portrait of Tom Pendergast captures his dominating personality through Bohan's expressive drawing style. "Big Tom" led the notorious Pendergast political machine in Kansas City from 1911 until his death in 1945. In 1939 he served time in Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary for election fraud, and later for insurance fraud. This portrait depicts Pendergast at the peak of his power and was probably drawn from life.
