Exhibition Label: "Constructions of Place: Architecture in Photography," Jan-1991, Erin Barnett One of the most influential photographers of the twentieth century, Strand championed the integration of modernist principles into photography. In his works from the late 1910s such as this, Strand used objects, including buildings, as design studies. Strand flattens the structures and distorts the viewer’s notions of space without manipulating the photograph itself.
