Exhibition Label: "Signs of Faith: Photographs from the Collection," Oct-2001, Elissa L.Anderson Siskind’s Harlem Document, a series of his photographs of which this is one, records 1930s African-American life in New York City. Harlem, impoverished during the Depression, nonetheless thrived through inspirational music and devotional practices.
