Surimono sometimes functioned as calendars, although their format is not the same as Western calendars. Here, the theater announcer holds a scroll that indicates the long and short months for 1818, a Tiger Year (the Asian astrological cycle is twelve years, wtih each named for an animal). The writing on the curtain says that the print was presented by a patronage organization.
