Exhibition Label: "Constructions of Place: Architecture in Photography," Jan-1991, Erin Barnett Arentz uses traditional equipment and materials, such as the large-format camera and direct-contact printing, to make platinum/palladium photographs that maintain a high degree of detail. Like the turn-of-the-century architectural photographer Frederick Evans, Arentz captures the play of light off the materials of the building itself. This photograph is an almost exact replica of one Evans made of Wells Cathedral in 1900. Exhibition Label: "Signs of Faith: Photographs from the Collection," Oct-2001, Elissa L.Anderson Arentz remakes a photograph of Wells Cathedral’s staircase that Frederick H. Evans originally made around 1900. Arentz uses an antique 12 x 20” view camera and experimental platinum printing process to mimic the atmospheric effects and wide tonal range afforded by Evans’s technique.
