Exhibition Label: "Japan Re-imagined/Post-war Art," Mar-2008, Kris Ercums Although it is objectively constant, speed, the rate at which time moves, is infinitely subjective in the human consciousness. In this print Kuroda freezes speed in the stillness of a jumbled bunch of bicycles. By dehumanizing the joy of a carefree bike ride, Kuroda presents a poignantly hyperactive representation of the hectic and stressful speed of modern life.
