The pattern of this Buddhist ritual cloth carries sprinkles of gold and silver clouds with floating lotus leaves on a red-orange ground. The designs were stencilled and painted onto the vibrantly colored silk. The reverse side of this cloth carries an inscription stating that this cloth was presented to a temple in preparation for the 550th anniversary of Kowa’s death, a holy man. Such cloths were placed on ritual altars.
