Archive Label date unknown: Little has been recorded about the life and career of Kō Sūkoku. He was a pupil (and perhaps son) of Sawaki Sushi (1707-1772), a pupil of the well-known painter of genre subjects, Hanabusa Itchō (1652-1724). In the present peaceful river scene we can glimpse the artist's interest in the daily life of the common folk in Edo (modern-day Tokyo) and its environs.
