Exhibition Label: "Time/Frame," Jun-2008, Robert Fucci, Shuyun Ho, Lauren Kernes, Lara Kuykendall, Ellen C. Raimond, and Stephanie Teasley In this simple and delicate still life, Barbara Hawkins asks us to contemplate the fleeting nature of existence. The carnation appears to have been cut at its colorful, blooming peak, but will not last forever. Painted in watercolor on paper, the image is the culmination of a series of moments. With each brushstroke, the pigment soaks into the paper and dries so rapidly that the watercolor process requires a short, but refined period of creativity
