Exhibition Label: "Japan Re-imagined/Post-war Art," Mar-2008, Kris Ercums This image of an anonymous, monumental lavender mesa is among Yoshida’s most celebrated prints. He called it “almost the best [image] of its kind.” During the time it was created, Yoshida traveled widely through the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. As indicated by the title, Unknown, it does not represent any one specific place. Rather, it presents a compelling amalgam of geographic memory that merges into an image of every place.
