Exhibition Label: "Signs of Faith: Photographs from the Collection," Oct-2001, Elissa L.Anderson Marissiaux experimented with atmospheric and blurry techniques afforded by the photogravure technique to evoke a nostalgic mood of simplicity and timelessness thought to characterize pre-industrial life. In this picture, he constructs a church scene in a tranquil French village that speaks to the traditional religious values that governed rural communities before the onset of modernization.
