Japanese hair pins like this one are called kanzashi [kahn-zah-she] and can be decorated in many different styles. People choose which hairpin to wear based on the changing seasons, the hairstyle they want to wear, and the decorations they like. Craftspeople study for up to ten years to learn how to make kanzashi.

Can you imagine studying for ten years to learn a skill? That takes a lot of perseverance to keep working even though it might be hard or take a long time.

What kinds of things do you practice over and over?
Can you think of a time you used perseverance to achieve something?
