Exhibition Label: "Passages: Persistent Visions of a Native Place," Sep-2011, Nancy Mahaney This dress is referred to as a three-hide dress for its construction, which utilizes one deer hide each for the front, back, and cape. The red bundles tied onto the dress probably contain herbs which served as sachets when fresh. The small band of beadwork at the neckline provides a subtle and elegant accent.
