"Vanished Voices: The Legacy of Northeast Kansas Indians," Jul-2004, Joni Murphy, Andrea S. Norris
Elaborately decorated with gorgeous beadwork in designs that display the interactions between mid-continent nations and those of the east, these splendid objects attest to the value of children and the celebration connected with their arrival. It seems unlikely that these special cradles would have been made for everyday use because of their elaborate decoration and weight. The artists probably made them for special occasions or for sale to collectors.
