Seeing the "ngungu" bird, recognized by its thick body and long neck, is considered a good sign when hunting. The bird is also considered a mediator between the spiritual and earthly worlds. The combinations of this bird with symbols of the chief communicate the chief's power over and position beyond earthly matters.
