The head of the masquerade character Chihongo is represented on the front rung of this throne. Chihongo is the most commonly carved figure in Chokwe art, and appears often on chairs. He represents the chief, symbolizing courtly wealth and power. A seedpod is tied beneath the seat of the throne as a charm for health and fertility.
