Exhibition Label:
“Flowers, Dragons and Pine Trees: Asian Textiles in the Spencer Museum of Art,” Nov-2005, Mary Dusenbury
Textiles were used for many purposes around the house. They were hung in doorways and on walls, and used as covers for other objects. This one was recycled from a woman’s worn headcloth, strengthened by the addition of linings and several borders. It might have been used to cover a pile of quilts.
