Quilts from the University of Kansas Museum of Art

(No. 9)The Lily pattern is a combination of pieced (the flowers) and applique (the stem and leaves) techniques. It is a very old pattern, one found in many parts of the country, as the variety of alternate names suggests. The bright colors and light-weight filling indicate that this is a summer quilt, made for eye-appeal and not for warmth. The quilting here is unusual, for the maker did not follow an established pattern, but created her own designs.
