Archive Label 1999: Linoleum cuts enjoyed a particular vogue beginning in the 1920s. Linoleum's soft, pliable, and grainless surface was easily cut, making it an attractive alternative to wood for block prints. In this view, the lay of the land and the type of trees resemble the region of the Smokey Hill River, which runs through Ellsworth, Kansas, home of the artist. Today the Rogers House and Museum is open to visitors in Ellsworth.
