Civic Leader and Art Collector: Sallie Casey Thayer and an Art Museum for KU

Sallie Casey Thayer traveled to Guatemala in 1916 and collected numerous objects of indigenous and colonial production, as well as European objects that migrated with colonial settlers. Most likely purchased during this trip, this vase indicates the Christianization of the region by Europeans and the types of objects created to service the new faith and its rituals.
