Uncommon today, glass miniatures designed as toys were manufactured by most major American glass houses. Boston and Sandwich Glass Company is recorded as having made toys during its first day of production. The miniature items were generally blown or molded at the end of the day with glass remnants from the bottom of the pot. Initially, glass workers blew the toys to take home to their children, but because the trinkets so delighted youngsters, they became a regular item.
