Toyoharu, the founder of the Utagawa School of printmakers, probably learned hte technique of drawing with one-point perspective from Dutch prints. Here, Yoshitsune, ancient Japan's most famous warrior, plays his flute to soften the heart of Princess Joruri, whose father's texts on military stragely he hopes to acquire through her favor.
