Archive Label date unknown: The Kisodaido, or mountain road, was the alternate route to the Tokaido for traveling between Edo and Kyoto. This print is one of 24 in the series 69 Stations of the Kisokaido which Eisen designed. Eisen, reportedly a dissolute and accentric personality, was eventually dropped as the artist for this project and the remaining designs were completed by Hiroshige.
