Archive Label date unknown: In this complex composition of dancers with horse puppets, Utamaro employs his signature close-up view of their smooth, almond-shaped faces. Two costumed women and one man are clustered in a triangular arrangement in much the same way performers today might gather together for a posed group snapshot. The occasion of the Spring Horse Dance is New Year's Day.
