Isis, Osiris’s wife, was a role model for mothers in Ancient Egypt. The representation of Isis suckling Horus symbolizes rebirth. Votive statues such as this one were often left at temples dedicated to Isis, possibly by a nursing or pregnant mother, or someone hoping for a child.
