Archive Label date unknown: Yoshida's designs of sailing ships and the sea were among his most popular prints abroad, especially in the United States. Yoshida was unparalleled in his ability to depict water in the woodblock print medium. He trained in Western-style painting and was strongly influenced by the French impressionists. He adapted the impressionist-style layering of color to achieve the effect of sunlight sparkling on the water in this and similar prints.
