Exhibition Label: "Signs of Faith: Photographs from the Collection," Oct-2001, Elissa L.Anderson Esquire commissioned this photograph of the Porter family for an article on private Christmas devotional practices. The couple proudly stands beside their local award-winning nativity scene and decorated tree at their suburban home in Austin, Texas. The article notes that the Porters lived next door to Madalyn Murray O’Hair, the famous atheist who won the 1963 lawsuit to remove prayer from public schools.
