Exhibition Label: "Signs of Faith: Photographs from the Collection," Oct-2001, Elissa L.Anderson Post Wolcott toured some of the most impoverished areas of the United States in the 1930s and 1940s while working for the Farm Security Administration. This image of a baptism explores not only the economic and social devastation of the Depression that might be expected, but also the sense of a nurturing community that emerges through religious practice.
