Archive Label 2003: Genoves was born in Valencia, Spain. As a child he witnessed the Spanish Civil War firsthand. His family sided with the anti-fascist Republicans. Shortly after completing El Lugar Y El Tiempo, Genoves was instrumental in organizing an exhibition in Milan to support the cause against General Franco, who was still Spain’s fascist dictator. The stark silhouettes in El Lugar Y El Tiempo (a portfolio of ten prints) suggest aggressively political crowds that rally and advance. Exhibition Label: "Time/Frame," Jun-2008, Robert Fucci, Shuyun Ho, Lauren Kernes, Lara Kuykendall, Ellen C. Raimond, and Stephanie Teasley Simultaneously gleeful and treacherous, this print suggests continuous motion. Like the high-speed multiple-flash photography seen in the Edgerton photograph, Genovese’s print captures the moments and the movements of descending figures in a single image.
