Exhibition Label: "Sum of the Parts: Recent Works on Paper," Jun-2001, Stephen Goddard Marden makes use of a series to articulate a conceptual dialogue between black and white and between line and form. While Adriatics is actually a set of six prints, the three owned by the Spencer Museum give a good idea of Marden’s use of the series to explore different solutions to the problem of finding elegant formal relationships between some of the basic elements of the visual arts.
